How Are We Keeping You Safe in 2021 at the Annex Theatre

Updated: May 10

In light of the current health situation around the world, we’ve created a comprehensive protocol to ensure the safety of our casts, crews, and customers. In addition to a continuous and carefully tracked cleaning and sanitization routine, we’ve implemented the latest technology and training so you can rest assured that we are going above and beyond to help keep you safe.

Surface Sanitization

Before and between each performance, our trained staff will use cleaners and hospital-grade disinfectants to sanitize all areas. Our sanitizer is Health Canada-approved.

Sanitization Fogging and HEPA filtration air scrubbing

730 Bathurst st/ has added proper air circulation to our HVAC system. We scrub the air between every group with a HEPA filtered air scrubber, which perpetually cycles and cleans air in the environment. We run this between performances to ensure a safe environment.

Germicidal UV lighting

We have installed several germicidal UV light fixtures that operate between groups to attract and kill pathogens like COVID-19. Recent studies have proven this is an effective way to clean an environment alongside all other measures.

Hand Sanitizer

We have added hand sanitizer dispensers not just to the common areas, but also to each individual sections. To provide the best experience and efficiency, our sanitizer contains 70% ethyl alcohol, plus moisturizers to keep your hands clean without making them dry.

Face Masks

All staff will be wearing face masks. All customers must also wear a face mask when entering and moving around the venue (using the washroom). The mask must cover your nose, mouth, and chin, with no exceptions. Anyone found non-compliant will be asked to leave and will be reported to the Toronto Public Health department.

Reserved Seating Only

All venue seating will be managed and assigned in advance. We will not be offering any general seating for events. Our venue normally seats 110 and we have reduced our capacity to 48 to allow for social distancing between groups.

New spatial orientation and awareness

Ushers will seat one group at a time. We have installed new step units and barriers on the riser system to ensure ease of travel between entrance and seating as well as the washrooms. The upper balcony has also been opened to allow for more social distancing within the space.
