TEACHER'S BIOGRAPHY:
Thomas Putman is an artist and educator based in Toronto, Ontario. Thomas studied at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts in Toronto before travelling overseas and obtaining his Master of Arts in Musical Theatre Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Thomas has over ten years’ experience working as an Arts Educator, as well as fifteen-plus years’ personal experience in the performing arts. Thomas adores working as an educator, because he firmly believes that providing a fun, safe environment, with the freedom to explore and exercise, is not only one of the most rewarding experiences – it’s one of the best ways to grow and inspire future generations. Over the years, Thomas has taught thousands of children and adults, in subjects ranging from Vocal Music and Drama, to Writing and Language (English/French), Film and TV, and Performance and Performance Craft.
Thomas has worked professionally as an Actor, Director, Musician, Artistic Director, Private Vocal Coach (Estill Voice Training), Writer, Author and more. Beginning in 2016 Thomas was fortunate enough to spend four seasons with the charity and Theatre for Young Audiences company Solar Stage, performing hundreds of shows via school tours and in house productions (including original works by Canadian playwrights to famous stories from Hans Christian Andersen and Robert Munsch). In the years since, Thomas has directed over thirty youth and adult productions with various organizations throughout the GTA, run workshops with thousands of students in public and private schools and continues to teach independently. From 2021 to 2025 Thomas lent his teaching abilities to the Durham District Schoolboard (DDSB) as an Emergency Supply Teacher, having been asked to return every year to continue with the program. In 2024, he authored and published his first children’s book titled ‘Instrumentally Aurelie’, following up that success with his second, ‘Battlefield Betty’ in fall 2025.
Select performance credits include: Dennis in Rock of Ages, Tony Hendon (Stephenville Theatre Festival), Doug in The Quest Musical (Toronto), Pugsley Addams in The Addams Family (Edinburgh Fringe Festival). As a vocalist, Thomas has performed as a part of the Opening Ceremonies of the 2014 Commonwealth Game, and as a duo with the JUNO award winning Sonia Collymore throughout the GTA appearing twice at CFL legend Mike ‘Pinball’ Clemons’ annual ‘Christmas with the Clemons’.
